Thoughts on looming environmental degradation

The issues and problems that confront the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari are numerous, multifaceted and multidimensional. But still notwithstanding, the issue of environmental degradation deserves uncommon attention, as it directly depletes our land and affects our food production and security, especially as we are faced with population explosion. The duo of desert encroachment and sea surge are left unchecked and are gradually and steadily eating up our land from north and south respectively. The resultant effect manifests in the form of communal clashes, tribal disputes, farmers and herders conflicts, as witnessed recently in the North Central region as a result of scramble for the remaining limited farmlands or grazing lands as the case might be. To curtail this and to save us possible food crises which is now a global phenomenon, the incoming government should as a matter of urgency, protect our land from further depletion.
