Three opposition members of the Taraba State House of Assembly have defected to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmakers are Umar Adamu, representing Jalingo 1 Constituency, who left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); Zakari Sanusi, representing Ibi Constituency, also of the NNPP; and Anas Shaibu, representing Karim 2 Constituency, who defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Speaker of the House, John Kizito Bonzena, while reading their letters of defection on the floor, said their decisions followed Governor Agbu Kefas’ drive to reposition the state.

In his letter, Shaibu said aligning with the PDP would enable him to serve his constituents more effectively and contribute to Taraba’s development. Adamu, in his own letter, noted that after consultations with his constituents, he concluded that the PDP’s ideology and vision better aligned with his values and commitment to public service.

With the defections, the PDP now holds 15 seats in the 24-member Assembly, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) controls eight.
