Of course many Nigerians believed that Buhari has the solution to the country’s headache and he has all it requires to remedy the precarious situation, but looking at how sophisticated Nigeria and Nigerians are in the 21st century, it’s not realistic to anticipate a total reform in a single tenure. Buhari needs to prepare to serve two consecutive terms in office for him to take the country into the dream and of a national overhauling and complete institutional reform for the Government and the people on Nigeria, as Nigeria took a very long period to get scattered, it will also take long to overcome the challenges.
For me, the compensation of the struggles we participated along with millions of other Nigerians in the last twelve years to install Gen. Buhari in the seat of power is to see that he is able to address three major challenges of insecurity, Corruption and Electricity.
These three key performance indica-tors for a Buhari-led administration are achievable and very timely within the first four year tenure of General, potentially this could be the biggest impact that will usher him a second change to consolidate and sustain reform Programmes.
Indicator one, is to see Nigeria ending the Boko Haram insurgency, Kidnaping and stealing of oil before the end of Buhari’s tenure, bringing back the Chibok Girls is would be a great milestone in this direction. If the president-elect as a former General of International repute cannot curtail the Boko Haram peril of Boko Haram insurgency at least within the first half of his regime, he will not have my vote again for fifth time. Indicator two is about fighting corruption, although General Buhari demonstrated extreme accountability and prudence throughout his life to date, and his pronouncement has consistently proven that he will fight corruption to the last order, but I don’t expect him to have a zero tolerance to corruption as a democratic leader.
Indicator three is to see the country’s power sector strongly improving, giving the residential areas and industries adequate power supply of at least not less than 18 hours per day. Of course the power sector reform has taken a new dimension in the last six years and I hope Buhari can leverage on the existing efforts of previous administration there by supporting regulation and increasing the capacity to generate, transmit and distribution of the electricity in all parts of the country. If Buhari cannot show the difference between his Government and the previous administrations in making a complete overhaul and transforming the Nation’s power sector, Nigerians will doubt their confidence on him. To whom much is given, surely much is expected; let’s support Buhari for the emergence of a new Nigeria.
