Ghana’s fastest rapper, Sarkodie emerged ‘Artiste of the Year’ for the second time. The talented artiste last Saturday night at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre beat other top contenders to clinch the coveted title.

He beat his close rivals Becca, Okyeame Kwame, Efya, R2Bees, 4×4 and Kwaw Kese to come top in the Ghana musical industry awards. The award attracted a cash prize of Ghc10, 000.

Sarkodie clinched the enviable title in 2010, Okyeame Kwame (2009) and Kwam kesse (2008).

It was indeed a memorable night for the artiste as he picked two other awards: ‘Best Rapper of the Year’ and ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’ from his hit song ‘U Go Kill Me.’

The band 4×4 which was widely tipped as the likely winner picked ‘Album of the year’ from the hit track ‘Waist and Power.’ It was a night of recognition for the trio as they picked ‘Group of the Year’ award.

Nigeria’s music maestro, Ice Prince coveted ‘African Artiste of the Year.’

Arch-rival Kwaw Kese clinched ‘Hiplife/Hiptop Artiste of the Year, while his hit ‘Poppin’ was adjudged ‘Hiphop Song of the Year.’

Gifty Osei and her album ‘Fefeefe’ won ‘Gospel Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Gospel Album of the Year’ respectively.

Reggae sensation Blak Rasta clinched the ‘Reggae Song of the Year’ for his dazzling performance in ‘Miss Right.’

Debutant artiste Stay Jay did not disappoint his teeming fans as he picked ‘Best New Artiste of the Year.’   Zigi’s ‘You Say Wetin’ won ‘Afro –Pop Song of the Year.’ And the duo Okyeame Kwame and Bertha clinched ‘Best Collaboration of the Year’ for their sparkling performances in ‘Faithful.’

The Vodafone Musical award night was hallmarked by scintillating performances by musical icons from Ghana and parts of Africa. Artistes such as MI, Ice Prince, Cuba Snoop, HHP, Sarkodie, Efya, and Buk Bak, 4×4, Ben Brako, Kaakie and Kwaw kese held the audience spellbound with their electrifying performances.

The first performance gave the audience an insight into what to expect for the night. The combination of Cwesi Oteng and Lord Kenya rendering the hit song ‘God Dey Bless Me’ thrilled everyone.

Award winning actor, Chris Attoh and ace comedian Funny Face were comperes for the night. Officials of entertainment giants KPMG were the event’s statisticians.

The introduction of Funny Face as co-host spiced up the night, as the comedian left the audience reeling with laughter. He lived up to his billing as Ghana’s funniest man. Chris Attoh as usual delivered as an ace compere.

Gospel songstress Gifty Osei rendered her award-winning song ‘Fefeefe’ and displayed her dancing prowess.

The only unpleasant incidence in the night occurred when Appeatus came upstage to present the award ‘Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste of the year’, but the screen displayed ‘Highlife Artiste of the Year’. The recipient Kwaw Kese brought it to the Attention of Appeatus while some people booed. It was a beautiful night as the best in Ghana’s music industry showed class.
