Time to check on that nanny
Time to check on that nanny

“I hope it is not true,” was my response when I watched  it.
I was in denial because I could not imagine such wickedness towards a child even by the most hearted human being, much less a woman who is old enough to have children.
This unsetting video would make young mothers wonder about their nannies, afraid of leaving their children with them.
It is always a problem for young mothers that either go to work or to school to have to get somebody to look after their children.
As it is not all of them that can take the babies to their mothers or aunties, besides some live far away or even in different towns.
Consequently they all go for anybody they can find; some prefer small girls, saying they can play with children, while some are more comfortable with the matured or even elderly women.
Therefore women end up employing all sorts of people as nannies that may even harm their children as in this specific case.
The result some of the nannies maltreat the children and refuse to change their diaper or give them food, but will do so only when the mothers are about to come back home.
Some even eat what is kept for the babies and toddlers such as milk, egg , bread, noodles and so on.
Also some beat small children when they soil themselves or even spill food.
One woman told me that she used to take her one-year-old daughter to a nanny in the neighbourhood, but the woman would not change her diaper. And the funny thing is that as soon as the mother came to take her daughter, the so-called nanny would instruct her to change the diaper.
She stopped taking her there and decided to take her  to a day care centre, which may not also be better.
In some day care centres children are given cough syrups to make them sleep so that they would not disturb the nannies by crying.
The proprietors may not necessarily be aware, but it shows how everybody can cash in on a trade without the know-how and take people for granted. As long as they make money they don’t care.
Still, some day care centres don’t have adequate number of nannies to cater for all the children.
So the day care centres may not necessarily be the answer to bad nannies.
One woman told me that if you see a child crying and doesn’t want to be left with the nanny the mother should suspect something, that the nanny may be maltreating the child.
The work of a nanny is not for every comer, as a lot of women don’t like children or rather don’t tolerate them, since they are not their own children.
Most find it easier to work just as house helps doing cleaning and so on. But because people want to earn some money they accept to be nannies, only for them to maltreat innocent children.
In fact some would leave small children to fight and break things, saying they are tired of talking to them. I wonder what would happend if the babies are oft to fiddle with knives and matches.
But I guess they don’t care, they will say the children are stubborn.
One nanny was reported to lock up the baby in her care and go out with her boyfriend. The baby would cry for long, before the nanny returned.
And the mother never found out until the nanny left. That was when the neighbours told her, saying they didn’t tell her because they didn’t want to interfere.
It is advisable for mothers and even fathers to go home unexpectedly and even the day care centres to see how their children are being treated when they are least expected to be there.
However,  we need a policy to have  a standard criteria for becoming a nanny.  Those interested should go through proper training of handling a child through stages from newborn, one-year-old and so on.
It is not going to be easy but we should start from somewhere, many people are at a loss as to where to get somebody to care for their children when they are not around, or even when they are around as they may need a helping hand.
It is a shame when a woman who should be motherly maltreat children in her care, and if caught she should be sanctioned.
