And so the Chinese are having a field day treating people like dogs or even worse than dogs, by denying them their most basic human rights.
What makes the behavior of the Peoples’ Republic officials worse than that most others around the world, is the fact that most countries hide their human rights abuses behind one excuse or another. But the Chinese are so brazen in their lack of respect for the rights of their citizens that they don’t even bother to hide behind anything to violate them. They are second only to the Apartheid State of Israel, in their gross abuse of the rights and liberties of others.
The recent, disrespectful and dehumanizing treatment of Imams – Muslim clerics who lead prayers in mosques – is a clear demonstration of China’s total and official abuse of citizen’s human rights. Why would these learned scholars of religion be subjected to such humiliating treatment? What is their sin apart from belief in religion? And is it a crime to worship a Supreme Being because leaders of the Godless Republic have no decency in dealing with people who don’t follow their ideology?
According to Morocco World News of February 12th this year, the government of majority Muslim Xinjiang province of China had on Monday the 9th, ordered imams in the province, to dance a choreographed dance in the streets. They were made to dance holding banners that read ‘our incomes come from the CKP not from Allah.’ Xinjiang state’s government has been notorious for its repression of Muslims, though they form the majority of its citizens. The Morocco World News report continues:
‘The imams were also made to swear an oath that they would not teach religion to children on the grounds that prayer “is unhealthy and harmful to the soul.” Teachers in the district were forced to take a similar oath, also swearing to teach their students to stay away from mosques.
In addition to the banners, the imams were also made to chant statements exalting the state such as “peace of the country gives peace to the soul.”
This latest indignity comes after over half a decade of oppression by the Chinese state in the Xinjiang region, known by activists as East Turkestan, which has been autonomous since 1955 and is home to Uighur Muslims, a Turkish-speaking minority. Recently, China has increased its religious repression in the region, with human rights groups claiming that China has been using anti-terrorism as an excuse.
China has gone so far as to ban religious practices and icons, including clothing, in government buildings and to ban women in hijabs and burqas from using public transportation, as well as make it illegal for students and government officials to observe Ramadan.’
As the above report shows, this religious persecution is not limited to Xinjiang province alone. The Chinese Federal government itself is behind some of the worst persecution that Muslims face, as a religious minority in China. The ban on hijab and making observance of the fast during Ramadan illegal are all national policies. But the world must not sit idly by while China continues to persecute people for no sin other than their religious belief. Yet it seems obvious that the powerful nations of the world are not ready to take on China beyond their half-hearted rebuke over Beijing’s human rights abuses. Less powerful nations have been visited with severe sanctions over much less violations. The world just isn’t ready to take on gargantuan China over something as insignificant as the persecution of Muslims.
But we, who are affected by these violations can take up the fight in our hands can’t we? We must rise up and campaign for a total boycott of China. We must use every means at our disposal to make sure Muslim individuals, organizations and companies no longer patronize Chinese goods and services. They say China is the strongest economy in the world today, but how did it get there? By becoming the world’s biggest single industrial layout. From the first world, where Apple computers and telecommunications products are created, to the third world where plumbing and other construction equipment are needed, the manufacturer is China.
The Chinese also hold total monopoly over almost every item used in the prayer or otherwise, in the Muslim world. From our prayer beads – charbi – to our carpets, the sallaya and our long Arab dresses, jallabiya and abaya as well as hijab, everything we Muslims use in worship is made in China. Yet the Chinese are our worst enemies. How else will you describe the people who needlessly humiliate and persecute your brothers, for no other reason that they believe in Allah?
If one in every four human beings is a Chinese, know that one in every five people is a Muslim, because Muslims today number up to one and a half billion. We constitute one big market block for these godless persecutors, why should we continue to empower them? We must campaign for Muslim countries to boycott Chinese services and expertise and if they really must source them from far Asia, then let them go to Malaysia and Indonesia instead. Our local businessmen and women who go to China to order textile products should please come together to revive our abandoned textile industries – whose products were as good as the Chinese – when we had them; and end up providing jobs for our youths.
Those who go to China to order ready-made clothing and children’s toys should please shift their demand to Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
Our Igbo brothers who closed down Aba industries in favour of China’s sub-standard construction materials and fashion items should please return home and know that Aba made was actually better and more lasting than the ‘made-in- China’ they flood our markets with today.
The Saudi, Qatari and Emirati billionaires who shifted their investment from America and Europe to China, in the wake of the War on Terror, should please close down their Chinese factories and return home to open such industries. Their poor people need the jobs that they effortlessly took to the godless and inhuman Chinese. At the individual level, we, the ordinary consumers of Chinese goods and accessories must resolve to buy nothing that reads ‘made in China,’ because in the end, it is our action that will compel even the manufacturers to boycott China. If we refuse to buy, then the big bosses who order those things will incur nothing but losses won’t they? And the next time they will think twice about ‘making in China.’
Today the Chinese walk with their heads high, bestriding the top capital cities of the world investing and seeking investment. We must destroy this confidence they have by making them feel boycotted and insecure. An economic boycott is the only way we can achieve this.
Their persecution of Tibetan monks is well-known and celebrated by international media, thereby getting the Bhuddists global sympathy, we Muslims must hit the Chinese where they will feel it most, because no one will champion the cause of our brothers in their midst, apart from us.
Due to our quiet economic boycott of Israel, most Israeli firms have to hide behind European and American corporations to gain acceptance in most places. They simply lack the confidence to say ‘We are Israeli go to hell,’ we must resolve to make the Chinese feel the same way.
They must be made to taste the full wrath of our purchasing power.
Then they will know whether their income comes from the CKP or through the benevolence of Almighty Allah, who made their products and services appealing to us in the first place. The first and effective, simple step to take, is boycott everything China, beginning from today.
