Time to save Pambegua hospital

Permit me a space to call the attention of Kaduna state government on the deplorable condition of Pambegua general hospital. The hospital was built by the administration of Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi to provide medical services to the people of the community and its environs. In the last two years, however, the hospital has become a ghost of its former self and turned into glorified clinic rendering skeletal service due to some hitches caused by poor management in the hospital.
The medical director or doctor of the hospital is not helping matters as he hardly stays to perform the duties he was employed to do. This attitude forced other staff to toe the lines. There are reported cases of lateness and withdrawal from service before closing hours by the staff. Cases of patients referral has become the order of the day because of the lackluster attitude of the doctor while installed medical equipment are not functioning due to lack of specialized personal who can operate or manage them. Many patients prefer to, or are forced to, patronise primary health care (PHC) than the state owned hospital. This has increased burden to the understaffed PHC in the community. It is in view of the above problems that we make a passionate appeal to the state government, under the able leadership of our amiable governor, Malam Nasir Elrufai, to come to the aid of the hospital before it collapses.
