President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived in the United Kingdom for a two-day historic state visit at the invitation of Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

President Tinubu’s aircraft touched down at London Stansted Airport at 3:18 p.m on Tuesday.

He was received on behalf of the Royal Family by Mark Bevan, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, as well as the Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to the UK, Ambassador Mohammed Maidugu, and other senior officials.

Also on hand to welcome the president to his hotel were several senators, governors, and ministers.

President Tinubu and his wife will be hosted at Windsor Castle from Wednesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 19.

The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring investment opportunities for business communities in both countries.

Earlier, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the visit is the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years and that President Tinubu is also the first Nigerian leader to be hosted by a British monarch at Windsor Castle.

Nigeria and the United Kingdom share a long history and enduring ties. The visit is expected to deepen cooperation in key areas such as immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

While at Windsor Castle, Their Majesties will host the President and First Lady for a special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection related to Nigeria.

President Tinubu is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. The meeting is expected to lead to expanded bilateral engagements and the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding covering trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.

Additionally, the President will witness the signing of a landmark £746 million financing agreement between UK Export Finance (UKEF), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Federal Ministry of Finance to support the refurbishment of key maritime infrastructure, including the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex.
