Asiwaju Tinubu further blamed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the amorphous earnings of the lawmakers and asked him to retire from politics, as all Obasanjo’s political structures had begun to crumble. Tinubu, who spoke to reporters at Lagos airport yesterday, said the candour and bravery of the Kano-born banker was the kind of leadership attribute needed for Nigeria to move to the next level, just as he called on former President Olusegun Obansanjo to retire from politics.

Tinubu said: “It is very important for us to look at our expenditure. I respect Sanusi for holding firm to his position, the fact is that here is a National Assembly appropriating money for themselves.  No review, no investigation, no evaluation. They are in violation of the codes of ethics of the NASS by just appropriating anything for themselves. Nigerians must be able to call them to question, not only at the polls, but at the expense of the poor.”

The ex-governor explained that the CBN governor was worthy of commendation and emulation because not many Nigerians had the courage to challenge members of the National Assembly for thinking only about themselves to the detriment of the development of the nation.  “We should call them to question. I respect Sanusi’s figure, if he has made a mistake of not standing by that data, any data from him in future will never be respected. I have it on good authority that they even get as far as participating in the implementation of the budget before something is approved. You have instances in which the government will say this is how much it wants to spend and arbitrarily they increase it in order to justify their increase for themselves.”

According to Tinubu, all the fraudulent structure the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) built on false and electoral fraud, between 2003 and 2007, have collapsed before Obasanjo’s eyes.
