President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm the nomination of 10 persons for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs). 

The president made the request in a letter read during a plenary session on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. 

The nominees are Etekamba Umoren (Akwa Ibom State), Isah Ehimeakne (Edo), Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti), Abubakar Ma’aji (Gombe), Shehu Wahab (Kwara), Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos) and Aminu Idris (Nasarawa).

Others are Mohammed Yelwa (Niger), Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers), Isma’ila Moyi and (Zamfara).

Tinubu, in the letter, said his request for Senate confirmation of the nominees was in compliance with the constitutional provisions. 

The Senate president, after reading the letter, referred the presidential request to the Committee of the Whole for screening. 

If confirmed, they are to serve a five-year term each, and can only be removed by the president and a two-thirds vote from the National Assembly.

In a separate letter, President Tinubu also asked the Red Chamber to confirm the nomination of 11 persons, who are appointed as the governing board members of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA). 

The president urged the Senate to consider his requests expeditiously.
