Tinubu, Buhari, others mourn as Shettima, Ganduje’s mothers-in-law buried in Kano

The remains of Hajiya Maryam Albishir, mother-in-law of Vice President Kashim Shettima, were laid to rest on Monday in Kano State.
The burial followed funeral prayers at her family residence, attended by family members, friends and notable personalities.
Hajiya Maryam, aged 69, was the mother of Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The solemn event saw a large gathering, including Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf; Acting Governor of Borno State Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur among others.
In a related development, Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama, mother-in-law of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was also buried in Kano State. Hajiya Asiya was the mother of Hafsat Umar Ganduje, the wife of Ganduje.
The funeral prayer, led by Sheik Auwalu Khalid, the Imam of the Ganduje residence mosque, took place at Miyangu Road in Kano, after which she was buried at the Tarauni cemetery.
Ganduje, through his Chief Press Secretary Edwin Olofu, said, “Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama was a revered matriarch, whose life was characterized by her unwavering commitment to family, community and faith.”
Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin; Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila; and other key politicians attended the funeral prayer.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his condolences to Vice President Shettima and his family over the passing of Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albishir.
Describing the loss as deeply painful, President Tinubu celebrated her legacies of philanthropy and good virtues.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that the president mourns the deceased while urging the family to take solace in her remarkable life.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari also expressed his sorrow over Hajiya Maryam’s death, offering thoughts and prayers to the Vice President and his family during this challenging time.
Also, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen extended his condolences to both Shettima and Ganduje, describing the late women as great community leaders and inspirations to women.
Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, through his Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, said: “Hajiya Maryam Abubakar has left a legacy of compassion, humanity, and philanthropy. She will be remembered for her service to the community and the less privileged during her lifetime.”
