The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the 2025 Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) in recognition of his administration’s impactful achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, urban renewal, infrastructure, and social welfare.
The award was presented at a ceremony in Abuja, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Monday.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of NEAPS, Justice Mary Odili (rtd.), presided over the ceremony.
Governor Yusuf was honoured alongside the governors of Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, Enugu and Akwa Ibom states.
According to the statement, the recognition reflects reforms and development strides recorded across key sectors in Kano under Governor Yusuf’s leadership.
In education, the administration has undertaken large-scale rehabilitation of public schools, recruitment of new teachers, and increased funding for basic and secondary education.
The statement noted that the state’s healthcare system has also witnessed notable improvements with the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres, the upgrading of major hospitals, and the expansion of access to essential medical services.
In the agriculture sector, the governor’s spokesperson said Yusuf has implemented farmer-support initiatives, ensured the timely distribution of inputs, and strengthened extension services to boost food production.
Kano’s ongoing urban renewal efforts—aimed at modernising infrastructure, improving sanitation, and restoring the city’s status as a livable metropolis—were also cited as key considerations for the award.
Other awardees at the event included the Chairmen of the NDLEA and EFCC, the heads of NFIU, Customs, Immigration, the Minister of Aviation, the Minister of Finance, and the Director-General of NEMA.
Governor Yusuf, while accepting the award, dedicated it to the people of Kano State and reaffirmed his commitment to people-oriented governance and sustainable development.
