The suspension of democratic rule in Rivers state for six months by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not pronounced to undermine democracy, but to quell a political crises that may have snowballed into a full blown security breach.

Political supporters from opposing camps of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and that of the suspended Governor of Rivers State Similaiye Fubara were brazing up for indefinate and unending political umpires that would have led to loss of lives and property.

This views were contained in a statement issued in Abuja signed by a former Special Adviser on media to the minister of state power Mr. Ofem Uket.

According to him, the explosion at the oil facility in Ogoni and Oga egbema Port-Harcourt was a pointer to the fact that the political crises were going to hamper oil production that would affect the state of the county’s revenue.

“The President paramount interest is in the lives of the people of Rivers State and the revenue accruing from the oil production, being the mainstay of the Nation’s economy.”

Uket emphasised that where your treasure is, there will your heart be,, saying the emergency rule in Rivers was more of econmic gains than political as widely understood by political commentators and the citizens.

He urged the people of Rivers state to give the sole administrator maximum support to restore and maintain peace in the oil rich state.

“The state and the oil facilities would have been blown up by now if a sole administrator was not appointed because the two political gladiators were not ready to stand down for each other “
