President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held a closed-door meeting with Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, and former governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting might not be unconnected with the ongoing impasse surrounding the outcome of the All Progressives Congress, APC primaries in Benue State.
The meeting, Daily Trust gathered, was part of the ongoing efforts to resolve the post primary crisis and tame the escalating political tensions in the state.
The APC National Secretariat recently released the names of their candidates with the name of the former Benue Governor Suswam missing as a Senatorial candidate.
Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, have been battling for control of the party’s structure in Benue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Daily Trust gathered the meeting was part of efforts by the Presidency to reconcile contending interests and promote unity within the state’s political class for the two powerful politicians in the state to work together.
