President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged godfather, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in Abuja, in a bid to ease tensions between the two leaders.

The meeting comes amid ongoing political friction between Fubara and Wike, who have clashed over control and influence in Rivers State.

Sources at the Presidential Villa told journalists that the meeting was part of the ruling All Progressives Congress’ (APC) efforts to reconcile the differences since Governor Fubara joined the party.

“Yes, there was a meeting, but I don’t know what was discussed. Wike, Fubara and some leaders from the state met with the President,” a source said.

The source added that President Tinubu is committed to fostering peace in Rivers State, noting, “Wike works for the President, Fubara is an APC governor. So, the President is interested in making sure there is peace between them.”

This marks the third attempt by President Tinubu to address the lingering political issues in Rivers since Fubara assumed office. The governor and his former godfather have been at odds for months, creating a polarised political environment in the state.

The rift has also spilled into the Rivers State House of Assembly, where the tensions have contributed to an impeachment notice against Governor Fubara.

The meeting in Abuja is seen as a strategic effort by the presidency to mediate between the two leaders and restore stability in the state ahead of upcoming political developments.
