Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is under pressure ahead of the 2027 elections and warning that he will be voted out of power.

Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television on Sunday, Lawal accused the current administration of prioritising power and wealth over the welfare of Nigerians.

“We are held hostage by people that are more interested in power, in wealth than safety, security and wellbeing of our people. We need rescue, including Bola [Tinubu] who needs to be rescued from himself,” he said.

Lawal questioned the President’s leadership style and political posture, arguing that it reflects a departure from the values expected in governance.

“A president who brags that because he’s in power now, things will be easier for him… somebody that has lost all sense of decorum, all sense of what politics is all about,” he added.

The former APC chieftain, now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claimed that Tinubu is increasingly uneasy about his political standing despite perceived support from governors.

“The man is in panic mode. For anyone that knows Bola, he is in panic mode. He’s in panic because even the 31 governors that he said are with him, are not with him sincerely. He knows it,” Lawal stated.

In a stark political prediction, he declared: “We are going to throw him on the streets come 2027. Bola will be on the street.”

Reflecting on his past relationship with Tinubu, Lawal described a stark contrast between the President’s earlier persona and his current disposition in office.

“I used to think he’s a good man. I used to think he’s a decent man,” he said, recounting an incident involving former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, where he observed Tinubu’s humility and compassion.

“I saw a very humble, humane person. And then, he used to tell me that he would like to emulate the politics of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. He said that was his role model in politics.”

However, Lawal argued that Tinubu’s character changed after assuming office.

“Before he became president, he was a good man. When he became president, he derailed,” he said, adding strong criticism of influences around the President.

“He ran into some people because the poor man is a Lagos city boy. He doesn’t know much about Nigeria. He ran into some Northerners who are by nature diabolical, selfish, who pretend to be religious whereas it’s just a cover for the evil. My poor friend fell into their hands because they said they will make him president. He needed them to make him president and then the man derailed,” Lawal stated.

His remarks underscore deepening political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition figures and former allies intensify criticism of the Tinubu administration over governance, security, and internal political dynamics.
