• Atiku to implement PIA host community fund provision – Okowa

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has assured entrepreneurs that he will turn Nigeria’s present challenges into opportunities for growth and development.

He also promised to work towards creating a better security system in the country to provide them with an enabling environment to do their business.

A statement by Tunde Rahman from Tinubu’s Media Office yesterday said the APC candidate spoke at a business luncheon with business owners titled, “Business Forward” yesterday in Lagos.

According to the statement, Tinubu also promised to take bold decisions that would turn the economy around including fuel subsidy removal.

On the other hand, the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has said the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would ensure that the Petroleum Industry Act was enforced, including a provision on host communities’ fund, if elected.

He said a lot of funds were needed for the development of oil-producing communities in the Niger-Delta and assured that if elected, the Atiku/Okowa administration would change the poor conditions in the oil-bearing areas through the full implementation of the act.

Okowa gave the assurance during the flag-off of the PDP governorship campaign in Warri South and Uvwie LGAs yesterday.

“There is a provision in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), that is the Host Communities Fund and we will ensure its full implementation for the benefit of the oil-bearing communities,” he said.
