President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16.
This was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy in a statement on Thursday.
This was coming after intrigues and horse-trading which saw the previously nominated Chairman, Engr. Abdullahi Ramat dropped.
The President named Musiliu Olalekan Oseni, as Chairman of the board and Yusuf Ali, as Vice Chairman.
Oseni was the Vice-Chairman of the commission and acted as Chairman in the midst of the back and forth over Ramat’s nomination.
Dr Oseni started his service as a Commissioner in January 2017, before his appointment as Vice Chairman of the Commission.
His appointment as Chairman took effect from 1 December 2025 and shall subsist until the completion of his ten-year tenure at the Commission, in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Ali was first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022. His designation as Vice Chairman took effect on 1 December 2025 and shall remain in effect until the completion of his first term.
Other members of the reconstituted Board are Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti, Commissioner, Mr Dafe Akpeneye, Commissioner, Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello as Commissioner, Dr Chidi Ike, also as Commissioner and Dr Fouad Animashaun, Commissioner.
Onanuga said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the board members of NERC to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Daily Trust reports that the constitution laid to rest the controversy over the earlier nomination of Ramat whose screening took longer than expected at the Senate.
Ramat had earlier resumed at the commission following the announcement of his appointment in August but he was later advised to vacate office until his appointment was confirmed by the Senate.
He eventually lost out in a controversial circumstances and high-wire politics which saw the former Vice-Chairman taking his place.
Meanwhule, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has congratulated Mr. Musiliu Olalekan Oseni.
Adeleke, in a statement described Dr Oseni as an outstanding professional who has made significant contributions to the country’s power sector since joining NERC as Commissioner in 2017.
He hailed his appointment to lead the regulatory body is a mark of trust in his competence and capacity.
The Governor highlights the Iwo-born technician’s experience and proven skills as assuring on providing robust regulatory framework at NERC that will aid significant improvement of power to the homes of Nigerians, appreciating President Tinubu for giving yet another Osun indigene the opportunity to contribute to nation building.
“I am most excited to read about the appointment of Mr. Musiliu Olalekan Oseni, PhD, as the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Dr. Oseni is an exceptional professional and his choice of leading NERC at this period reinforces hope of a genuine interest to make Nigerians see the benefits for the power they pay for,” Governor Adeleke was quoted as saying in a congratulatory message.

I am therefore thankful to President Bola Tinubu for yet again tapping on an indigene of the state for a national assignment.”
