President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, have been commended for what has been described as a calm and measured response to recent comments reportedly made by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Nigeria’s security situation.
In a statement, the Project Coordinator of The Citizens Project, A’dab Ukor, said Nigeria and the United States share a long-standing partnership built on mutual respect, democratic values, and shared aspirations for peace and prosperity.
Ukor stated that the organization believes continued dialogue and collaboration remain the most effective means of addressing global and regional security challenges.
“The insurgency that has affected parts of Nigeria for over fifteen years has caused hardship across many communities. Since the current administration assumed office in 2023, there have been noticeable efforts aimed at improving security through enhanced coordination, intelligence-led operations, and peacebuilding initiatives,” the statement said.
It added that The Citizens Project encourages the U.S. government to continue strengthening cooperation with Nigeria, particularly in areas such as intelligence sharing, training, and technological support, which it described as essential for achieving shared goals of peace and stability.
According to the statement, the organization, through research, advocacy, and public engagement, works to amplify citizens’ voices, promote accountability in governance, and encourage informed participation in nation-building.
“The Citizens Project remains committed to peace, integrity, and progress—supporting collaboration among government, citizens, and the international community in advancing Nigeria’s stability, prosperity, and global standing,” it added.
