Leaders from the southern part of Kwara State have described the appointment of President Bola Tinubu since his assumption of office to be in line with the federal character principle.

The group which claim to have the backing of all the traditional rulers from the district said the president has demonstrated a sense of equity, fairness and justice thus far.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday, the group, led by Chief James Ayeni, said the president has demonstrated that he belongs to all Nigerians, irrespective of region, religion or ethnicity”.

According to him, the President was always guided by political clairvoyance and sagacity which guided him in “discovering talents and putting round pegs in round holes”.

Kwara South district, they noted, had benefited from the “fair and equitable distribution of appointments across the country”.

They thanked the President for the appointment of “children from the district into various offices” adding that the decision had “rekindled our sense of belonging in the Nigerian Project”.

“The President can, therefore, be rest assured of our unwavering support for his administration and our unflinching loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While acknowledging the appointment of the Attorney-General/Minister of Justice, Prince Abdul-Lateef Fagbemi, NNPCL Group CEO, Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Chairman, Governing Council, Federal University of Health Sciences, lla-Orangun, Prof Wale Suleiman, and Engr Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun, as member, Board of Directors of TETFUND, among others, the group urged the president to keep an eye on Kwara South with a view to “oblige us with more appointments like Oliver Twist”.

“Kwara South is a very fertile ground to hunt for and discover highly qualified technocrats, politicians of integrity, men and women of
great skills who can stand tall and be counted among the best in the word”, they added.

On the criticisms that some of the Yorubas appointed by the president are from other zones of the country, and not Kwara state, Chief Ayemi explained that 70% of Yoruba speaking population hails from the state, adding that the criticism was borne out of ignorance.

They thanked Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for facilitating appointments and attracting federal and state projects to the zone.

Meanwhile, they highlighted the deplorable state of some of the roads in the area, especially the Ilorin-Omu Aran-Egbe road, and appealed to the federal government to rehabilitate them to boost their socioeconomic development.
