The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka (GNI), says the ongoing economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the last two years have been yielding positive results.

Isiaka, however, stressed that only sustained gains can translate into real improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

The lawmaker, who represents Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, spoke during the mid-term constituency engagement held at the Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro, Yewa North LGA, Ogun State.

“We have been through very rough times — high inflation, naira devaluation, security challenges and other issues. Reforms are being put in place to address these problems,” Isiaka said.

While acknowledging that the reforms have begun to yield results, he maintained that such gains would be meaningless if they are not sustained.

“There are gains from all of this, but those gains cannot cascade into opportunities in individual homes if they are not sustainable. Sustainability is what we are looking at now, and that is the essence of what the President has said,” he noted.

Isiaka expressed confidence that sustained reforms would soon reflect in improved economic indicators, including a drop in inflation to single digits, double-digit growth in Gross Domestic Product, and a significant rise in foreign reserves.

“When we begin to see these indicators improve, then we will see the effects that we truly desire,” he added.

Speaking on the FG’s 2026 budget recently presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly, the lawmaker expressed optimism that the proposal would bring relief to Nigerians and reposition the country for long-term economic growth.

According to him, the budget is structured to consolidate the gains recorded from the administration’s reforms over the past two and a half years and to address lingering economic challenges.

Isiaka urged Nigerians to remain resilient and committed to all these necessary changes, positing that the foundation being laid would bring stability and prosperity to all.

The lawmaker said, “I am confident that better days lie ahead and these tough times will surely pass.”

He lauded the Ogun State Government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his foresight in repositioning the State pursued with strategic vision, saying the developments recorded by his administration have shaped the socio-economic architecture of the State.

Giving account of his stewardship, Isiaka, said that the comprehensive economic development plan put together by him had continued to serve as a strategic roadmap for quantum of socio-economic transformation.

“Across all 21 wards, we have executed projects and facilitated empowerment programs, including a state-of-the-art police station in Ebute-Igbooro, a six-classroom block in Ayetoro, and the first Computer-Based Testing center in Imeko-Afon. We have sponsored bills and motions, facilitated business partnerships, and maintained steady advocacy on matters affecting our people.

“The specifics of our interventions and constituency projects cut across infrastructure, health, education, security, water provision, power supply, technology, employment creation, and skills acquisition. Without sounding immodest, I believe we have given a good account of ourselves. Over and above, I know it can only get better as we deepen this legislative work and expand our impact,”

GNI promised to remain accountable to his constituents measured by the consistency of his presence.
