Supporters of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under the aegis of the Northern Young Professionals for Tinubu (NYPT), and the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) have flayed a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and his allies for adopting the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, ahead of next year’s elections.
In a statement, the Obi-Datti Media Office Sunday said even though Dogara had the right to choose who to support, “To try injecting his old testament politics” into the system to suit his selfish interest was not going to do him any good.
It reads further, “The former speaker knows as a fact that his choice is against the tide as the country stands on two prongs today ahead of 2023; justice and equity on one hand and capacity and competence on the other and not on primordial interests of political party lines.
“We in the Obi-Datti Media see Hon Dogara’s unpopular stand as a clear measure of double standard and a grave error in seeing the same faith ticket in his party as wrong but jump to embrace another injustice of a party that refuses to follow its own constitution and respect for political fairness and accommodation.”

Similarly, addressing newsmen Sunday in Abuja, National Coordinator of NYPT, Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, said Dogara’s decision was self-serving and not in the interest of the Christian community in the North.
He said, “We are not worried about Dogara’s group endorsing Atiku Abubakar because it’s not a threat to our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of winning. Dogara is a political traveller. But we don’t want him to overheat the polity.
“We urge Nigerians and our Northern Christians to be wary of the politics of Dogara and his co-travellers that intend to be self-serving, deceitful through religious and ethnic sentiments that can heat up the polity, especially at this time of electioneering campaigns.
“It is obvious that their rantings and rage are simply because Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not consider any of them and decided to choose Senator Kashim Shettima who is a Muslim based on his capacity, competence, honesty and sincerity of purpose.”
