The new syllabus would strengthen government’s efforts in ensuring uniformity and standardisation of education system.
Speaking at a one-day annual review meeting of registrars and chief executive officers of states and FCT, held in Abuja, the deputy director in charge of junior secondary education, Mrs. Abimbola Olufunmilayo Olamilokun, said the syllabus was intended to ensure sound education for Nigerian children.
Olamilokun said, previously, states formulated their syllabus, making transfer of students from one state to another difficult.
 “Without the basic syllabus, the harmonisation and standardisation will not be implemented,” she said
The permanent secretary at the ministry of education, Dr. Macjohn Nwaobiala, said experts from the states and the FCT will be invited to scrutinise the developed document with a view to improving the quality and standard of education, at the basic education level, in the country.
