Mai Mala Buni, Yobe State Governor

The Yobe State government has procured 1.5 million doses of Anthrax Spore Vaccine (ASV) to vaccinate 7 million livestock for the prevention of anthrax disease across the state.

Governor Mai Mala Buni stated this during the launching of the vaccination of livestock against anthrax disease at Kukareta in Damaturu Local Government Area of the state.

He said the Anthrax disease had been reported in some parts of the country which is why Yobe decided to take proactive measures to protect her people and to safeguard the economy of livestock farmers.

“Government has procured 1,500,000 doses of Anthrax Spore Vaccine to cover the vaccination exercise on the estimated livestock population of about 7,000,000 in all the 17 local government areas of the state.

“At this period of the year, there is always a high rate of movement of pastoralists, this exercise therefore, would foster our gains against the spread of Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs).

He said Yobe State is one of the leading states with a high population of livestock in the country, saying Yobe shall continue to take proactive measures against outbreaks of animal diseases and to give full protection to its livestock.

He called on the federal and state agencies to closely monitor the movement of herdsmen from other countries into Nigeria to further boost its drive to prevent Anthrax and other diseases imported to Yobe State in particular and Nigeria at large.
