Vegetables sellers in Janguza market, Kano state have expressed concern over hike of tomatoes and other perishables’ prices.
Speaking with our reporters, Chairman of tomatoes sellers in the market, Alhaji Muhammad Ja’e said the increase in price of tomatoes had skyrocketed compare to last year.
“The business has slowed down as price of tomatoes increased, thereby reducing our gains. We now sell a medium basket of tomatoes at N2,500.00, big basket N3,000.00 and smaller at N1000.00,” he said.
Alhaji Ja’e called on both the state and federal governments to support dry season farmers in the state.
Mallam Abubakar Tofa, who sells vegetables in the market, attributed increase in the prices to scarcity of the perishables.
He said when the perishables were in abundant, the prices used to go down.
