Kaduna Book and Arts Festival (KABAFEST) would be hosting writers including Toni Kan, Leila Aboulela, Zaynab Alkali, Andrew Walker, Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, among many others.

Scheduled to take place from July 5 to 8 at the Gusau Institute, Kaduna State, the event would feature five book logues with nine authors, nine panel discussions, two film screenings, an art exhibition with four Northern Nigerian artists, food-tasting, and poetry performance.

Lola Shoneyin, the creative director of KABAFEST said “we aim to create new and exciting opportunities for social and cultural interaction, the celebration and promotion of creatives in the Northern region of Nigeria and foster tolerance and understanding through dialogues about books, culture, the arts and society.

School children would take part in the poetry declamation contest for secondary schools. Students attending tertiary institutions in Kaduna, who register before July 5, would be allowed to attend for free. They can also apply online for a N10, 000 book grant.

Also, for the duration of the festival, there would be a bookstore on-site, which would offer a wide range of books at a special rate.

It was gathered that the event would celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Northern Nigeria, harness the passion of local creatives and bring together some of the finest contemporary writers, artists, poets, filmmakers, and thinkers.

KABAFEST is organised by the Kaduna State government in partnership with Book Buzz Foundation and the Gusau Institute.
