Mr Tonye Oliver Braide was on Saturday decorated president of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA).
Braide’s investiture came at the close NIA Annual General Assembly and Conference in Abuja.
Former NIA presidents led by the immediate past president, Mr Waheed Niyi Brimmo administered the oath of office on Braide and decorated Braide with the presidential emblem.
This resulted in a rapturous cheers from the huge crowd.
In his speech, the new president who will steer NIA till 2017 promised to rejuvenate the institute by tackling challenges in education and practice of architecture in Nigeria.
“We’ll look at accreditation in schools — establish graduate examination…we’ll beef up schools with deficiencies,” he maintained, adding that his administration will monitor to ensure total compliance with expatriates quota provision.
He said NIA will create platform for registration of every house in Nigeria.
“Every house should have an architect. This will help government drive its policies – we’ll support President Muhammadu Buhari to build Nigeria of our dream,” Braide concluded.
Over 1,500 architects converged for this year’s biennial conference, said to be the biggest in the history of the institute.
Present at the investiture night were Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Mohammed Bello represented by a director in FCT administration Soso Mohammed, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Ekpo Nta, former governor of Akwa Ibom State Victor  Attah among others.
This year’s gathering was tagged BGM 2015 with the theme “Development of the City (Past, Present and Future)”.
