Niger Tornadoes Technical Adviser, Coach Abubakar Bala, has said he is confident his team will give other clubs a good fight at the Nigeria National League Super 8 play-off which begins today in Enugu.
The play-off is usually held after an abridged season to determine who out of the eight teams, four from the northern Confluence and four from the Southern Confluence will pick the four available tickets to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
This year, the 14 matches of the competition are billed to hold at the “Cathedral” the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
While Niger Tornadoes, El-Kanemi Warriors, DMD of Maiduguri and Gombe United picked their tickets from the northern confluence, Remo Stars, Bendel Insurance, 3SC Ibadan, and Ekiti United qualified from the Southern Confluence.
With the exception of DMD and Ekiti United, the remaining six clubs had featured in the Nigerian topflight.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, Bala said Tornadoes will take each match at a time.
He said having played in the NPFL before, Tornadoes are among the favourites but nothing will be left to chance.
“The play-off is for the best teams in the NNL so we are not expecting anything short of serious competition.
“The prize at stake is so big that every team will fight hard to win. But like any other team in the competition, we also fancy our chances.
“It is high time we returned to where we rightly belong so we would put in everything,” he assured.
