The Chairman of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Nuhu A. Dauda, has expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnapping in the area.

Alhaji Dauda addressed newsmen shortly after a security meeting of the council, which had the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 177 Guards Brigade, Lt. Col. Muazu Musa Aliyu, and representatives of other security agencies in attendance.

He said the bandits had established a new camp to unleash terror on residents of communities in the area, as well as travellers plying the Ugya-Umaisha axis.

He further said despite the state government’s pledge for amnesty to the bandits in order ensure peace across the state, the bandits still went ahead to abduct innocent people for ransom.

“In fact, of recent, there were serious operations in the forest where the bandits dwell. As the security agents went after them, some ran to neighbouring states.”

According to him, the bandits later returned with their hostilities after they discovered that the situation had remained calm and invited some gangs from other states to establish a new camp in the area.

The chairman said the Ugya -Umaisha road was no longer safe for motorists due to incessant attacks by the bandits.

The chairman also raised alarm that the bandits had marked down some prominent indigenes of the area to eliminate, but assured that security agents were on alert.
