 Alhaji Mohammed stated that his ministry has the challenge of positioning the tourism and culture sector as a significant revenue earner, adding that the mandate to identify, develop and market the nation’s tourism potentials and cultural heritage imposed on the ministry the duty to ensure that all stakeholders and key players are carried along.

 The Minister said it is necessary for the sector to re-engineer its processes in order to achieve the excellence that is being demanded of it from the increasing competitiveness of a globalised world, and the increasing public demand for higher quality service.

 He therefore charged the committee on  fairness, harmony, equity and due process in their efforts to resolve the issues and move the sector forward.

 The Technical Committee is a direct outcome of the National Council on Tourism, Culture and National Orientation which was held in Calabar in August 2010 to look into the contentious issues affecting the hospitality industry in Nigeria, especially the sharing formula of revenue generated from the classification and grading of Hotels.

Kano , Taraba, Benue, Imo, Oyo, and Cross River States represented the six geo-political regions in the committee. Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) and Tourism Department of the Ministry are also represented in the committee.
