The Nigeria Institute of Town Planners has enjoined the new coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) Alhaji Umar Shu’aibu to ensure that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) conforms with the master plan.
The institute gave this charge during a courtesy call on the new coordinator at the AMMC office in Abuja.
The institute led by its national president Luka B. Achi lauded the appointment of Umar Shu’aibu, describing him as a man who is well grounded in the field of city planning and management and urged him to justify the confidence placed on him.
Lukas advised the AMMC Coordinator to also ensure that equipment and logistic as well as personnel are improved upon as a way of surmounting the enormous challenges in managing a city like Abuja.
Lukas also tasked Shu’aibu to publish the urban statistics of the city regularly as a means of monitoring the city and establish a city watch centre.
Responding, Shu’aibu, who was appointed in September by the FCT minister Mohammed Musa Bello, assured the institute of his commitment to make Abuja better than he met it.
He said, himself as a town planner, will not let them down even as he sought their continuous professional support in attaining his objectives of making Abuja one of the best cities in the world.
