President Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Tpl. Steve I. Onu, made the call at the induction ceremony of 302 new full members of the institute in Abuja.
He said the theme of the programme “A framework for contemporary issues in environmental management” is apt in the effort to ensure that human settlement planning is given priority in the scheme of things.
The NITP President reminded the new inductees that the practice of town planning goes beyond the idealism that they were exposed to in school because as they engage in private practice they will be confronted with issues that challenge professionalism and integrity.
He said by their training the new members are modeled to proffer recommendations that will lead to planning, design and management of human settlements and must carry along stakeholders so as to get proposals through.
