Town Planners have been urged to update their knowledge and embrace global best practice to advance the course of the profession.

This was stated by Professor Remy N. Onyewuenyi at the 30th  induction ceremony of Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC) held Thursday in Abuja.

Onyewuenyi who is the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Caritas University, Enugu congratulated the new inductees, urging them to strive to be the pride of the profession by faithfully keeping the norms that promote the cause of professionalism in the Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria.

He said “Since most people in this country do not know for real the role and functions of urban and regional planners, you have lots of work to do in the areas of education, awareness creation and marketing of your profession.” 

Earlier, President of Town Planners Registrations Council of Nigeria (TOPREC) Prof  Layi Egunjobi  disclosed  that a total of 423 members were inducted into the profession after passing the  written and oral examinations of the council.

He said the council’s aim is to provide the would-be -registered town planners with the skills and knowledge to sustain a productive and professional life for themselves and to make meaningful contributions to the society.
