Eze, who trades on baking materials at the popular Singer Market in Kano, said he demanded that the charm be imported from Niger Republic so that he could market it to his friends abroad.
“I was the one that asked one Aminu to bring the charm from Niger Republic because the one that was sourced locally failed. But we were arrested while on our way to test it,” he said.
He denied the report that he sent for the charm in order to go into armed robbery, saying, “No, I only want to augment the profit I’m making from my baking materials business, nothing more.
“After a series of negotiation, Umar agreed to sell the charm at N8million, but he said he would not give it to me to test. He said he did not trust me because I’m an Igbo boy. I went round to get somebody that could serve as a guarantor. That was why I involved Bala Usman.”
On his part, a hunter, Yusuf Shuaibu, who volunteered to use his gun to test the charm, said he decided to get involved in the business because he was convinced that they would not disappoint him.
“This is not the first time I’m testing a gun charm for Eze. The first time he came, we went to the same area, but unfortunately, the gun charm did not work. When I shot the charm, it scattered, meaning that it was not effective.  
The public relations officer, Kano State police command, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, said the suspects were arrested based on information from members of the public.
“They assembled and were going to the outskirt of the town in order to test the charm, which was brought from Niger Republic. The people became suspicious when the sound from the tricycle they were moving in was too high. The mode of dressing of the personalities in the tricycle added to the suspicion.
“When the people drew the attention of our men to the tricycle, we swung into action, and as they saw us coming, they started running. We arrested some of them, and after a little interrogation, they confessed that they were on their way to experiment a charm,” he said.
He commended the people for their vigilance, saying they should always be mindful of people in their neighbourhood.
