A traditional ruler in Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State has reportedly killed two out of nine suspected kidnappers who attempted to abduct him.

Jauro Hammangabdo, who is the District Head of Mayo Selbe, reportedly confronted the kidnappers who invaded his palace at midnight.

Daily Trust gathered that the kidnappers gained access to the palace and went into his bedroom but that Hammangabdo resisted the attempt to abduct him and engaged them in a fight.

It was further gathered that Hammangabdo used a sword during the fight and killed two of the kidnappers and that the rest took to their heels leaving some of their guns behind.

Daily Trust further gathered that the traditional ruler who sustained deep cuts on his head and hands is now on admission at a clinic.

The Taraba State Deputy Governor, Haruna Manu, who was in the area to visit the Lamido of Gashaka, commended the courage of Jauro Hammangabdo. He said cases of kidnapping had become a source of concern to government and people of the state.

Commenting on the incident, the Chairman of Gashaka, Muhammed Umar, said he had avisited the injured district head and that he was responding to treatment.

He said the two kidnappers killed by the royal father were identified through their identity cards, adding that they were part of a gang of notorious kidnappers terrorising the area.

He said in the past few weeks about 17 persons were abducted in the area and about three of those abducted were killed following failure of their relations to pay ransom demanded by the abductors.

When contacted, the police spokesperson for Taraba state, ASP David Misal confirmed that the district headresisted attempt by kidnappers to abduct him and killed one of the kidnappers.

He said one person has been arrested in connection with attempted abduction.
