Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are living in a terrible condition in their camps in Jigawa state, Santuraki of Dutse, Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido has said.

The traditional ruler made the assertion when he visited two IDPs camps to donate food items in Kiyawa and Birnin Kudu local government areas of the state.

The Santuraki expressed concern over the deplorable condition of the camps and appealed to the relevant authorities to come to the rescue of the IDPs before the situation get worst.

He noted that the IDPs were citizens of this country with equal right to life, hence the need for both state and federal governments to ameliorate their suffering.

“I visited the two camps to donate to the IDPs and ascertain the condition of the camps. Unfortunately what I saw was pathetic. The IDPs are living in a terrible condition. I was touched when a widow and mother of seven children narrated how she managed to cross some streams alongside her children to Kiyawa IDPs camp.

“My discovery was disturbing; they don’t live like IDPs in these camps. Rather they live like refugees. Government should come to their aid,” he stated.
