An articulated vehicle Thursday lost control and crushed a tricycle operator and two passengers on the Ajaokuta-Lokoja expressway, in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
Chairman of Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria Branch (TOAN), Kogi State branch, Comrade Ahmed Sediq confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.
He described the incident as “sad and horrible”, stressing that the accident occurred when a trailer coming from Lokoja road had a head-on collision with an upcoming vehicle around Salem University on Lokoja -Ajaokuta Road.
“The truck lost control from its lane and crushed the tricycle rider and two other passengers. They died instantly”, he said.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the driver of the articulated vehicle was trying to negotiate a pothole when it collided with the tricycle.
Daily Trust learnt that the truck driver took to his heels shortly after the incident to avoid being lynched by irate youth who rushed to rescue the victims.
However, the state chairman of TOAN appealed to the state government to effect work on the bad portions on the road to avoid such occurrences and save more people from untimely death.
