A trailer loaded with beans has crushed one person and injured two others, along Kaduna Vom-Manchok federal highway in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Spokesman of the state police command ASP Ubah G. Ogaba, who confirmed the incident, said the Divisional Police Officer in the area, had deployed personnel to guard the truck and avert further breakdown of law and order.

A witness, Mr. Gyang Dung, told our correspondent: “I saw when the driver of the truck was trying to dodge the revenue collectors as he refused to stop for them and they threw a drum at him. There were some people on a motorcycle by the side and he hit them in the process, killing one of them,” he said. 

The driver, Usman Bala, said he was close to them when the revenue collectors threw an oil drum in front of the vehicle, and he lost control of the truck and hit a motorcycle carrying three persons. 

The chairman of Heavy Duty and Haulage Transport Association of Nigeria, North Central and North East, Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar, frowned at the activities the revenue collectors on federal highways, alleging that they operated illegally.

Mr. Solomon Osage, who is in charge of revenue collection in the state, said the Plateau State Revenue Service Board, should be contacted but not him.

“That particular spot where the incident happened belongs to the Plateau State Government.

“The right person that you are to talk to is with the Plateau State Revenue Service, because the boys that are working in that place are not working for my company,” he said.
