Speaking during the training session recently in Kano, leader of the team from the ministry, Mr. Ikhadeunu A. Andrew, stated that the training was aimed at building rice farmers capacity and also to equip the farmers with requisite skills on modern agronomic and cultural practices that will increase their production.
According to him, under the programme, free seeds will be given to the farmers while fertiliser and other components will be provided at 50% subsidy, adding that government will provide an enabling environment that will make rice production more profitable in order to meet up with targeted requirement by 2015.
He said 46,078 farmers are expected to benefit from inputs supply through the e-wallet system under the Growth Enhancement Supply Scheme (GES) during the dry season farming period.
Addressing the participants, Kano state Commissioner for Agriculture, Baraka Sani, who was represented by Director, Extension KNARDA, Usman Yahaya, stated that Kano Commercial Crop Development initiative (KCCDI) was recently launched by the state government.
