any countries, including the United States of America have joined the rest of the world to commemorate 400 years anniversary of Trans Atlantic Slate trade. The major perpetrators of the act were Africans themselves; European powers like Portugal, France, England, the destinations were Americas and West Indies.

In spite of the repercussion of that trade, the African leaders only organized a low key occasion to mark the day including, writing a mere article in newspapers. In Nigeria, there is little awareness about the anniversary, nobody cares, because today, we are facing an embarrassing form of slavery-the trafficking of Africans across the Sahara and Mediterranean to the same countries that perpetrated the trade mainly to engage in prostitution, drug pushing, and other undignified activities.

Olusegun Adeniyi’s authoritative book from Frying Pan To Fire revealed everything about this modern human trafficking in Africa.

I think beyond commemoration, we need truly and visionary Africa leaders who can provide good governance that will transform the lives of Nigerians, lift them out of abject poverty, and prevent them from “servitude” and embarking on risky travel across the Sahara and Mediterranean seas in search of greener pasture.

We should also inculcate in our children the sense of pride about Africa. We must do everything possible to neutralize western culture, their music, their mode of dress, the drug, the sex, and their movies. Africans must shun xenophobia, division, tribalism etc.
