Transfers fail to calm disquiet at NAFDAC

Three directorates – finance and accounts, human resources and administration – were affected in transfers initiated by the agency’s Director General, Paul Orhii.
But the director of finance and accounts, Ademola Mogbojuri, has petitioned his redeployment to planning, research and statistics before the agency’s governing council and has been moved instead to NAFDAC training institute in Kaduna.
The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria at NAFDAC, which went on strike last November to protest what it said was its members being “on the receiving end of bad management” and demanded removal of the affected directors, has backed the changes.
But it said it still had issues with directors acting as if they were “super directors above the law.”
The union’s chairman, Attah Ibrahim, told a press conference in Lagos, “At the union, it is our conviction that the management should not rescind its decision. This is in the best interest of NAFDAC.”
The union’s secretary, Anzaku Peters, said Mogbojuri’s resistance was insubordination which should not be tolerated as it may set a precedence. 
Citing public service rules, Anzaku said it was impunity for a redeployed staff to resist. “Resisting transfer is against civil service rule. This should not be allowed in whatever guise. Nobody should be bigger than the agency.”
