‘Transgender’, 2 others jailed for cyber fraud in Kwara

Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, has convicted an interior decorator, Asaolu Richard, from Iloffa in Oke-Ero LGA, and two others, Adeoye Abdulgafar Olashile and Madiu Bayo Tajudeen, from Atiba and Kishi in Oyo LGA of Oyo State, for offences bordering on cybercrime.

They were prosecuted on separate charges by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Richard, the commission told the court, claimed to be a white transgender (Marissa Hant) to fraudulently receive $30.

For Olashile, the EFCC said he claimed to be the daughter of a white farmer to receive $450 fraudulently, while Adeoye duped one William Kisam the sum of $600.

Justice Yusuf sentenced Asaolu, Adeoye and Madiu to six months imprisonment each and ordered the forfeiture of all the proceeds of the crimes as restitution to the federal government.

He, however, gave them the option of fines of N100,000, N50,000 and N100,000 respectively.
