The policy, according to the governor, would greatly curtail threat to vegetation and wildlife as well as reduce the rate of pollution and soil degradation, thereby helping to reduce the impact of desertification and climatic change on the entire environment.

Sheriff further threatened government officials against granting tree felling licenses to anyone as whoever was caught issuing such licenses would be dealt with in accordance with the Edict on felling of live trees and bush burning. He also warned against indiscriminate bush burning by farmers who burn bushes to clear farms in readiness for farming activities.
