 The month of June has come and gone. And just like every other month, it is a month that had its own share of ups and downs.

We have compiled a list of the different happenings that took place in the country and set the social media ‘ablaze’.

Super Eagles defeat by Argentina: The Nigerian team was on the verge of making it to the last 16 with the crucial Group D game tied at 1-1 but this was not so as the Albicelestes (Argentine team) scored a late winner which resulted in the early exit of the Nigerian team from the ongoing 2018 FIFA World cup.

This made soccer fans in the country rue about the Super Eagles inability to reach the second round of the tournament.

Herdsmen-Farmers’ clash across the country: The month of June was a crisis-filled month in some parts of the country following clashes between herdsmen and farmers. This led to the imposing of curfew in the affected areas of thestates where it happened.

Tanker explosion in Lagos: June 28 2018 was indeed a ’Black Thursday’ in Lagos state after a tanker carrying the premium motor spirit, popularly known as fuel, exploded and burst into flames on the popular Otedola bridge. The incident left many dead and injured.

Maradona’s middle finger insult: Argentine football legend Diego Maradona faced a massive backlash on social media after he was seen raising his middle fingers while celebrating his team’s second goal by Marcos Rojo in the 86th minute, as it gave the Argentines a 2-1 victory over the Super Eagles.

Prominent Nigerians sent to jail: Mixed reactions trailed the news of some prominent Nigerians who were sent to jail on charges ranging from money laundering to misappropriation of funds. One of such person was former Governor of Plateau state, Dr Joshua Dariye who was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

 

Super Eagles’ outfit: The outfit worn by the Nigerian team to the 2018 caused quite a stir on the social media as many did not hesitate to bare their feelings about the clothes. While some stated how beautiful it looked, others expressed their dissatisfaction about it.

Argentina and Portugal’s ouster from the World cup: Two big stars in men’s soccer, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, both went out of the World Cup on the same day  after Messi’s Argentina fell 4-3 to France and Ronaldo’s Portugal lost 2-1 to Uruguay in two ‘hot’ World Cup round of 16 games.

Animals and predictions: There has been a history of animals making different predictions in the past so when the story of Marcus the psychic pig predicting the final four teams that would succeed at the ongoing World cup appeared online, it didn’t sound strange to some people.

After that, Achilles the cat came on the scene predicting that the Super Eagles would win the game against the Albicelestes (Argentines).
