The Sokoto State Election Petitions Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the candidate of the Sokoto East senatorial candidate of the party, Alhaji Shuaibu Gwanda Gobir, challenging the election of Senator Lamido in the 2023 general elections.

Delivering the verdict by the three-member panel on Friday, the lead judge of the tribunal, Justice Emmanuel A. Ubua dismissed the petition for lack of merit.

Justice Ubua further said the petitioners failed to provide adequate facts and evidence to convince the tribunal of their petition against the academic records and election of Lamido.

In the petition, the PDP and their candidate alleged that Senator Lamido did not attend any school, alleging that he did not have primary and secondary school certificates as he claimed.

The complainants also alleged that electoral malpractice was encountered during the 2023 general elections in some polling booths across the eight local government areas that comprised the Sokoto East senatorial district.

Justice Ubua, therefore, awarded the petitioners the sum of N1 million to be paid to Senator Lamido for wasting his time.
