Inna lilLahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Monday, 27th April, 2020 will forever remain etched in our memories as the sad day that the people of Bama Emirate lost their most amiable Emir, the late Alhai Kyari Ibn Umar El-Kanemi Borno State.

More than a direct loss to Bama Emirate, the demise of the late emir was a big blow to his family and friends from all over the country and beyond.

For us, the loss has hit painfully hard. HRH Alhaji Kyari was a personal and family friend, as uncompromisingly loyal, effusively loving, deeply compassionate and understanding as a friend can be.

Away from the near stiff-neck public comportment required of traditional rulers, the late Emir was humble, self-effacing, pleasant in disposition, witty, fun to be with, and intelligent. He was always around with the right words, gifts and, above all, prayers for his family, people and friends and for Borno State and Nigeria. All who interacted with him will easily testify as to how philosophical, stoic and patient he was and in the ways he carried his person, royal duties, other responsibilities and commitments to people he came across.

As deeply affected as we shall remain, we surrender in total submission to the Will of Almighty Allah, keenly aware that ultimately all will tread the same path back to our Maker. The Glorious Qur’an states that all souls shall taste death and that from Allah all mortals come and to Him all shall return. HRH Alhaji Kyari has made the transition; We all await ours.

We therefore extend our heart-felt condolences to his family, the good people of Bama Emirate and the Government of Borno State, prayerful that Allah SWT will grant the late Emir mercies, forgive and grant him eternal repose in Al-Jannah Firdaus. May Allah SWT fortify his family and friends to bear the loss, amin.
