In the early hours of Saturday 17th of August 2015, we received the sad news of the demise of Alhaji Muhammadu Manga, the Emir of Misau. A grandson of Sarki Alhaji, a great, grandson of Sarki Saleh (linzami da wuta maganin
sangartaccen Doki) who was a descendant of Gwani Muhktar, one of the famous students of Usman Dan Fodio and also a member of 14 original flag-bearers of Danfodio Caliphate.
Throughout the reign of Dr. Muhammadu Manga he was never known to be quarrelsome and had never been antagonist to his people’s wishes and aspirations.
Tall, elegant and charismatic, he was well known for keeping to his words and never associated himself with fraud or dubious acts.
He was a leader full of decorum, compassion and social justice. Money and material world is worthless to him as he never owned a domiciliary or personal savings account in both home and abroad. He’s an emir with huge reputation for generosity, honesty, charming disposition and kindness. Above all, he was a patriotic figure and his excellent leadership skills earned him a national award of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) from the federal government.
History has it that Muhammadu Manga was among the few leaders who reject any form of disruptive activity that will degenerate the moral standards of his people, he institutionalized the system of home base orientation and constantly reiterate the need for peace among his populace.
Indeed, his legacies will continue to linger through time and centuries. And the vacuum created by his death will be hardly filled. Losing such a personality is tantamount to losing a great city full of scholars and expensive monuments. While still weeping his demise, we should continue to offer for him special prayers for his soul’s peaceful rest. Allah ya ji kan maza.
