The national executives of the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) have cleared the air over publications in the media that the Lagos State Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has dissolved the executives of the Tricycles Owners and Drivers Association of Nigeria (TODAL), and constituted a caretaker committee.
A statement signed by Babatunde Ayelogun, deputy national president of TOAN, said that contrary to the statement credited to the chairman of RTEAN Lagos Chapter, Alhaji Musa Muhammed, that the tricycle executive was dissolved in commuters’ interest and to foster public peace, it is the chairman’s interference in the activities of the tricycle operators that was endangering commuters and public peace.
“The Tricycle Owner Association of Nigeria hereby uses this medium to appeal to the law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to caution the chairman, RTEAN Lagos chapter, Alhaji Musa Muhammed, to forthwith desist from his illegal interference in the operation of tricyclists because registered labour union is by all legal means superior to any arranged affiliation,” he said.
Ayelogun affirmed the association`s commitment to the maintenance of peace and harmony in Lagos State and total submission to the Constitution of Nigeria, including relevant rules and regulations.
