Troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) announced on Monday the arrest of notorious gunrunners, bandits and arms couriers in multiple operations conducted across Plateau and Kaduna states.
The operations, prompted by intelligence, also led to the recovery of arms and ammunition.
Major Samson Zhakom, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, which maintains peace in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna states, provided details of the operations in a statement made available to Daily Trust.
He stated that on June 21, troops conducted an operation to flush out armed militias and other criminals from suspected bandits’ hideouts in Pandam forest, Qua’anpan Local Government Area of Plateau State, during which three AK-47 rifles, 5 AK-47 magazines and 75 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.

“In a combined operation with a sister security agency on the same day, troops tracked and arrested a notorious gunrunner along Riyom-Abuja road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The suspect was intercepted while attempting to supply 35 AK-47 magazines to another gunrunner, who had been arrested in Kano State on June 20, 2024.
“Further interrogation of the arrested suspect led to the immediate apprehension of the major supplier in Manchok, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State as he attempted to receive the 35 AK-47 magazines for delivery to bandits in Zamfara. A subsequent search of the major gunrunner’s home yielded the recovery of the 35 AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm (special), three Bajaj motorcycles, three mobile phones and items suspected to be local charms,” he said.
Major Zhakom expressed gratitude to the public for providing credible information that led to these successful operations.
