Troops arrest suspected gunrunners, recover ammunition in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested two suspected gunrunners during a stop-and-search operation along the Wukari-Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The suspects were intercepted on Thursday while riding a motorcycle.

They were identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, disclosed in Jalingo that troops recovered 444 rounds of 7.63mm special ammunition from the suspects after a thorough search.

He added that other items recovered include ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal belongings, and the motorcycle used for transportation.

Mohammed said the suspects and the recovered items are in custody for further investigation to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and prompt response, in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff to tackle criminal activities and improve security in Taraba State.
